  • Cover photo description:
  • After the Second World War, after a period devoted to reconstruction, the Joeuf factory experienced a lasting era of technical modernization and economic development. From 1968, the Joeuf forges gradually ceased their activities. The two giant furnaces built in the early 1960s were extinguished in December 1988 and November 1989 respectively. the workers' houses forming small housing estates were built by the De Wendel family. New districts have gradually surrounded the old Joeuf, in order to house the workers and employees of the mine and the factory. Joeuf had 12,000 inhabitants at the height of its peak, today it is a commune of 8,000 people
