- Cover photo description:
- I present to you this beautiful and rare spider. This is a Tliltocatl sabulosus species, Theraphosidae family (tarantulas). Common name: Guatemalan red rump. There are 7 species in the Tliltocatl genus. The name is derived from two nahuatl words, tlil, meaning black, and tocatl, meaning spider. It seems creepy but it is completely harmless. Observed in the Cerro Cahuà Protected Biotope, Petén, northern Guatemala. This tarantula is threatened by illegal trade.
