- Cover photo description:
- The San Francisco Ladies` Protection and Relief Society, are the owners of the property, and one of the first philanthropic societies in the state of California. The organization started out, in 1853, to assist dependent woman and children, and prepare the woman for jobs so they could care for themselves. Although they had a home by 1863, by 1920, the Federal Government mandated that foster care is preferred for such children. Still needing a good home for the woman, with land donated for the purpose, famed architect Julia Morgan designed this home for the cities elderly woman. With the declining need for convalescent care facilities by the mid 1950`s, the Ladies Society merged with the Crocker Old Peoples Home. As a seniors community, they offer rooms for both singles and couples. As seen 20 October 2022.
