  • Cover photo description:
  • This castle looking building, built in 1905 and continued in 1906 1907, by Mathew O`Brien and Carl Werner, for the Knights Templar. Since Werner was a Mason, that is probably why he got to do this building. These are not to be confused with the original Knights Templar, who go back to about 1119, after the First Crusade. These Knights Templar are a philanthropic group associated with the Freemasons. As with many cities across the country, by the 1950`s, there was a growing suburbia, and many city residents started to move out. This caused a big drop in city attendance of these kinds of organizations, and in 1950, was bought by the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. Martin Luther King Jr preached here during the late 1950`s to early 1960`s, helping to make this church the epicenter of the San Francisco Civil Rights movement. As seen 29 November 2022.
