- Cover photo description:
- This San Francisco house has a very interesting story for many unusual reasons. Starting on Sutter and Mason Streets near Union Square, for Richard Dallman when built in 1870. Richard was an importer of household products. Dr. Emma Sutro, the daughter of the former mayor and very wealthy investor, Adolph Sutro, bought the house with her husband, Dr. George Merritt and had it moved to the current location at 2335 Washington Street around 1900, where she used it as her home and officer. The move turned out to be a good thing, as most of the buildings in the former area were lost from the fire caused by the earthquake of 1906. Although woman doctors at the time period was still very unusual and unaccepted, especially for a woman of society, Emma persisted, becoming a womans and childres doctor. The once popular curved window, this is the last one. As seen 7 December 2022.
