There are two moats (Thangapat) i.e., the inner moat and the outer moat at Kangla. These moats aretreated as the water fort (Jala Durga). The royal chronicle refers the excavation of moat and construction of mud ramparts or fortress by kingKhunjaoba. Between the outer moat and the inner moat, there is a mud wall which surrounded the palace complex of the Kangla in four directions.
