  • Cover photo description:
  • The statue of the medieval Croatian bishop Gregory of Nin. The statue was created by Croatian artist Ivan Mestrovic. The statue is 8.5 m high and can be found north of Diocletian's Palace near the Golden Gate, where it was moved in 1959. It originally stood in the Peristyle of Diocletian's Palace from 1929, but was moved out of the city by the Italian occupiers in 1941. Bishop Gregory opposed the Pope and the Church in 925-928 and was instrumental in the use of Croatian in masses (Latin was still used).
