  • Cover photo description:
  • The Amazon Basin Treeboa (Corallus batesii) was given species status only in 2009. This is the biggest member of the genus, reaching lengths of over 2.7 meters (!). They have large heatpits that make it able for them to hunt any warmblooded animal in the pitch black rainforest nights which they are able to catch with their arsenal of huge, long, teeth. As young they are brick red and they turn green the older they get and their diet shifts. They are endemic to the lower Amazon including Peru,Bolivia and parts of Brazil,Ecuador and Colombia.
