- Cover photo description:
- The San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge might not be quite as famous as her younger sister of only six month,The Golden Gate Bridge, there is some very special history here just the same. For one, talk of constructing the bridge goes back to the Gold Rush. Joshua Norton, self proclaimed Emperor of all of the United States, was one of the big proponents in favor of the bridge. When it did finally open,in November 1936,it had train tracks on the lower deck, but with the increased use of cars, the train company went out of business, and the tracks removed. During the 6.9 Loma Prieta earthquake of October 1989,this is the bridge that had a partial collapse causing the death on one person. As seen 30 January 2018.
