- Cover photo description:
- Adolph Sutro was once mayor of San Francisco who made a fortune in silver mining in Nevada, was also a business man. The long gone baths that still bear his name hold testament to their excitement and uniquenesses of the baths. Along with the seven pools of varying temperature, there was also a high dive, spring boards and slide. Unfortunately, there was also segregation. On 4 July 1897,after John Harris,a black man,and several of his white friends paid their admission fees for entrance,Harris alone was denied entrance. He tried a second time a couple of days later. After being denied the second time,he sued in San Francisco Supreme Court, and won, based on a recent new state law banning racial discrimination. Overlooking the beautiful Pacific Ocean and just under Lands End. As seen 12 February 2018.
