- Author: Marianmocanu
- Cover photo description:
- The Alamana was officially pronounced as the new symbol of Sozopol. It represents a long history of hand-made,wooden boats that have been used in the past, between the 18-th and mid 20-th century for fishing and trading in the Bulgarian Black Sea. The strongest material that was been used for that period of time was oak from the Strandja Mountain. Ancient Alamanas were 12 meters long and 2 meters wide with a 10 people crew,8 of them were rowers. In order to catch a plentiful fish loads their wealthy owners needed at least two boats that surrounded the fish passages and were caught in between the nets.
