  • Pictured is the tile mural and statue of the resurrected Christ over the entrance to the Mission of Santiago de los Coras in the small town of Santiago in the Los Cabos Municipality in Baja California Sur, Mexico. The mission was founded in 1724 by the Jesuit missionary Ignacio Maria Napoli at the native settlement of Ainini which was populated by the the native people of the region, the Peruicu. In 1734 Mission Santiago was the first target of the Pericu Revolt in 1734. It's missionary, Lorenzo Jose Carranco, was killed and the buildings were sacked. It has been through restorations and abandonments in it's long history, but today he lovely mission building has been rebuilt with several modifications to the original structure.
