- Cover photo description:
- Kivach (livv. Kiva??u, fin. Kivatsu is a waterfall on the Suna River in the Republic of Karelia. The name of the waterfall comes, apparently, from the Finnish word kiivas, which means "powerful, swift".The height of the total fall of the waterfall is 10.4 m on a stretch of about 170 m . The height of the vertical drop of the lower stage is 8 m. The ledge of the waterfall is formed by diabase outlets. The waterfall is divided by a rock into two streams: the main (right) and secondary (left). The main stream descends along four ledges, the secondary one is divided into several jets directed at right angles to the main stream. The waterfall is an excursion object within the Kivach Nature reserve, the area of which is more than 10 thousand hectares. A nature museum and an arboretum are located near the waterfall.
