- Oliver Hazard Perry (August 23, 1785 – August 23, 1819) was an American naval commander, born in South Kingstown, Rhode Island. His victory over a British fleet in the Battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812 secured the Great Lakes for the United States. This plaster maquette at the Western Reserve Historical Society was sculpted by William Walcutt for his marble statue of Perry which is now housed at the Perry Monument visitor center in Put-in-Bay, Ohio.
