  • Sig Sautelle`s Circus House was built in 1905 to resemble a circus tent. It is listed on the Historical Properties of Homer, NY and is of historical significance. It was the winter quarters for the entire circus troupe including the animals, in the basement. The origins of this property begin with George Satterly, circus showman, who constructed the house as a training facility and winter shelter for his circus that famously travelled through the state’s canal system, The Sig Sautelle Circus. Different floors were reserved for training animals and acrobats, and with a later installation of a second floor, the house became a home to Satterly. It was built alongside the West Branch of the Tioughnioga River. The circus house is on the list of threatened properties by PACNY which is a volunteer organization that aims at the preservation of historical and architectural resources in several central New York counties.
