Cover photo info
- Photo title: Monument at the site of the Fetterman Massacre
- Author: Paulbuhr
- Cover photo description:
- Looking towards the southeast from the long ridge where the Fetterman Massacre occurred in 1866. A band of Sioux warriors led by Crazy Horse tricked Captain Fetterman into a trap where 81 US cavalry and infantry were killed by an overwhelming force of native American braves. The soldiers were a force sent out to scout the Bozeman Trail from Fort Phil Kearney which is located over the hills in the background. The Bozeman trail runs along the side of these hills just beyond the monument. Blue skies with a slight haze resulting from the Canadian Wildfires in early September.
