- Cover photo description:
- After San Franciscos devastating Earthquake of 1906, most of the worst of which was in the downtown part of the city, many new buildings came up, and most beautifully, especially along the rebuilt Market Street. This became known as 'The Path of Gold'. Most people walking along sidewalks generally ignore light poles as they tend to be just utilitarian and boring concrete tubes. It was because of this, when rebuilding the whole of Market Street, there was a San Francisco Beautiful Movement which included designs for the light poles along Market. From the base of the poles to the tops, they depict scenes from the cities history. These poles can be found along both sides of Market Street, from the very start of it straight up all the way to just past Castro Street where it suddenly veers off suddenly, due to the Twin Peaks hill. As seen 4 October 2023.
