  • The Montalvo Center for the Arts is a non-profit art center open to the public in Saratoga, California, United States. It includes a cultural and arts center, parks, hiking trails, and the historic Villa Montalvo, an Italian Mediterranean Renaissance-style building. The mansion is located in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains. The mansion and estate were built in 1912 by James Duval Phelan. After Phelan's death, it was donated to California for use as a park and is now the cultural and arts center it is today. The mansion is a historic landmark and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.The estate has several large buildings as well as gardens and unspoiled natural areas. Montalvo includes two theaters, an art gallery, the historic Villa Montalvo, an artists' residence, hiking trails and gardens. The mansion once hosted art exhibitions but is now only used for the many weddings and other events that took place there. Events open. The grounds include several gardens decorated with marble sculptures and garden structures. The front lawn is sometimes used as a theater for some of Montalvo's plays.
