- Photo title: View over the House of the Porch, Ostia Antica, Italy
- Author: 2circles
- Cover photo description:
- It is thought Ostia Antica, at the mouth of the river Tiber, was founded in about 335 BC as one of the very first Roman colonies. Ostia Antica became the great gateway for the Mediterranean to the city of Rome. With the end of the Roman Empire, Ostia fell slowly into decay, and was finally abandoned in the 9th century. At the picture a view across the House of the Porch, installed in an older building in the late Severan period and the middle of the third century AD. Some alterations took place in the period 375-425 AD.
