  • Cover photo description:
  • Spodoptera frugiperda or Fall Armyworm (FAW) is a new type of pest in Indonesia that attacks corn plants. This new pest is known as armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda J.E. Smith) or Fall Armyworm. Armyworms are moths native to tropical regions that were previously only found in corn plantations in the United States, Argentina, and Africa. In 2018 FAW entered the Asian continent in the regions of India, Myanmar, and Thailand. In March 2019, it was reported that heavy damage was caused to corn plants in West Pasaman Regency (West Sumatra), then spread to almost all parts of Indonesia. As a new type of pest that attacks corn plantations in Indonesia, the presence of armyworm or Spodoptera frugiperda can be a serious threat to farmers in Indonesia.
