- Among the pests of rice plants, there is one called Walang Sangit (Leptocorisa oratorius Fabricus) in Indonesia. Walang sangit is a member of the order Hemiptera (true ladybirds). The stinging grasshopper sucks plant fluids from flower stalks (paniculae) and also fluids from rice fruit that are still at the milk-ripe stage, causing the plant to lack nutrients and turn yellow (chlorosis).
