Cover photo info
- Photo title: Halsanefshellir and rocks of Reynisdrangar (by legend, the evil trolls) can be found on the beach by Mount Reynisfjall
- Author: Vlstary
- Cover photo description:
- Columnar basalt is formed by the slow cooling of magma, which breaks up into columns, usually hexagonal, as the surface shrinks. The columns always stand perpendicular to the cooling surface and may be horizontal, spreading from the centre, or vertical. The varied shapes of the columns are probably due to the fact that this is a section of an ancient volcano, as dykes, small magma chambers and lava sills can be found among other rock formations.
