  • Cover photo description:
  • The author Jack London, who is more associated with the Alaska and the city of Oakland California, where he did live most of his life, was actually born in San Francisco, 12 January 1876, as John Griffith Chaney. The address at the time was 615 3rd St., this new building is now 601 3rd St. The area at the time was residential with Victorian homes, as Jacks was at the time. Unfortunately, all of those homes were lost to the fire of the Great Earthquake of 1906. With no child labor laws at the time, Jack was working 12 to 18 hour days by the time he was only thirteen, he knew he had to get out of his situation. Having borrowed money from family to buy a used oyster boat, he started oyster fishing, which became the basis for his first, paid stories. He became a very successful writer and was able to buy a one thousand acre ranch in Sonoma County California. Because of his continuous readings and self educations, he was highly praised for his ecological farming. As seen 1 May 2024.
