  • The Tower of Porto Paglia (Gonnesa, Sardinia) was built in the sixteenth century, using lava rocks and volcanic tuffs. About 7 meters high and with a base diameter of about 12, is located exactly at the height of sea level. Peculiarities of the tower of Porto Paglia compared to other coastal towers of Sardinia is the characteristic semicircular shape. The interior is open, but being in the middle of the sea a few meters from the shore, you get there with a boat. Precisely because of the fact that it is in the middle of the sea, and then for centuries exposed to corrosive motion of the waves, the tower is in very poor conditions. The building was built with defense tasks lightly, were placed inside an alcalde, a gunner and four soldiers, while the weapons at their disposal were eight rifles and a cannon. From the top of the tower you can see the tower of Cala Domestica.
