  • Marble relief from the appropriately named House of the Dionysiac in the ancient Herculaneum. This panel depicts a dancing Maenad and a bearded man, probably Dionysius, facing each other on the right side while on the left two other figures stand before an archaic Greek sculpture of Dionysius. Herculaneum was destroyed by volcanic pyroclastic flows in 79 A.D., located in the territory of today's commune of Ercolano in the shadow of Mount Vesuvius.
