  • Cover photo description:
  • Finally commissioned in 1831, the “Aeolian harp” was nothing but the replica of British architect William Chambers’ “Aeolian Temple”, who designed and personally supervised this small architectural masterpiece in London Kew Gardens. Named after an ancient Greek God of all winds, Aeol, the small architectural creation, was very popular (and, still, remains as such) with the tourists visiting Pyatigorsk. Originally, the strings tied under the roof were very susceptible to the slightest wind, thus producing long sounds. After numerous improvements, the sounds are still heard in the vicinity. The ancient Greek God of wind, Aeol, could be very much satisfied with his heritage. Note the plate mounted in the bottom right part of the foundation. The text engraved reads that this architectural specimen is protected by the Russian Government. And this is not a trade mark!
