  • Cover photo description:
  • The castle over looks the harbour in Kos Town and is extremely impressive from the outside. It was built by the Knights of St. John on the foundations of the original castle and the walls of the ancient city. The walls are thick and huge, built of course for defence purposes and is largely made from local stone. The entrance of the castle is found across the bridge. Today the main harbour road goes under the bridge, and it is lined with palm trees. ‘The Avenue of Palm Trees’, which once was the moat in days gone by. There is an entrance fee, and although it is not a castle with a great deal of information, it is still worth going inside and seeing the spectacular views of the harbour. There are also many ancient relics, altars, sculptures, arches and pillars to be seen.
