  • A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Royal Saltworks (Saline Royale) of Arc-et-Senans was build by Claude-Nicolas Ledoux in the 18th century. As the name suggest it used to be a royal salt processing plant and was a first major achievement of the industrial architecture. The whole complex of semicircular shape was designed to permit a rational workflow. The central building, depicted in this HDR image was the central administrative unit and in the same time the residence of the director. The whole complex is today opened as a museum.
