  • Madhya Pradesh government banned plastic and polythene carry bags across the state from May 1 2017 saying that its consumption results in large number of cow deaths. The government had earlier declared prime tourist destinations and holy cities in the state as polythene free with effect from January 1. Chief minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj singh Chouhan says `The cows eat polythene which chokes the digestive system resulting into their death. Imposing ban on polythene use will protect their lives. Anybody caught using polythene will be penalised.
