  • The Rumyantsev obelisk obelisk `Rumyantsev victories` — a monument to Rumyantsev square, Vasilievsky island, St. Petersburg. The monument, designed by Vincenzo Brenna, was originally installed on the Champ de Mars, near the river embankment. In connection with the installation on the site of the monument to Suvorov, the obelisk was moved to the other side of the Champs de Mars, the Marble Palace. In 1818, when the device of the present Suvorov square, was again in need of the transfer of the monument. Alexander I chose a new location for the obelisk: on Vasilevsky island, on the former parade ground between the Academy of fine Arts, and the Menshikov Palace. The choice of a new place was determined by the location in the Menshikov Palace, the First cadet corps, the pupil of which was P. A. Rumyantsev-zadunaysky. Endured a monument to the architect Carl Rossi.
