  • Cover photo description:
  • The Kalmar old water turrets are 65 meters high and are seen long distances. The building is Mølleholmens highest and today contains apartments. The tower was built 1887-1900 and was designed by Hans hedlund [1]. Between 1900 and 1910, water was taken from three wells in Skälby, located three kilometers from the city center. Then water was taken from sources in the Nybro hill, about 2.5 miles outside the city until the tower was taken out of service in 1972. In 1983, the tower was converted to residential buildings and today the 15 apartments contain eleven pieces of apartments. The new water tower in Kalmar and Kalmar farmers silo at Tjærehoffet is significantly higher than the old water tower. It [clarifies] is 43 meters high but lies on Kalmar`s highest ground, which is about 10 meters above the water level.
