Cover photo info
- Photo title: Sperlonga, Torre Troglia
- Author: Marcofaiazza
- Cover photo description:
- The Tyrrhenian coast is dotted with numerous towers built to spot and defend against sea attacks. The towers of Sperlonga date back to 1500. The central tower, of which only a part survives in the current Via Giosa, dominated the town and its profile is drawn in the current emblem of the Municipality. The Torre Truglia stands on a rock of living stone on the extreme tip of the promontory of Sperlonga. Built in 1532 on the foundations of a pre-existing Roman watchtower, only two years later it was devastated by the hordes of Kaireddin Barbarossa.
