The construction represents the masterpiece of Safavid Iranian architecture. And together with the square belongs to UNESCO World Heritage Site. The construction work started in 1603 by chief architect Shaykh Bahai, during the reigh of Shah Abbas I of the Safavid dynasty and were finished in 1619.
