- Ollantaytambo Quechua: Ullantaytampu is an Inca city and archeological site in southern Peru, about 72 km 45 mi on the northwest road of Cusco. It is located at an altitude of 2,792 m 9,160 ft above sea level in Ollantaytambo district, Urubamba province, Cusco region. During the Inca Empire, Ollantaytambo was the royal estate of Emperor Pachacuti, who conquered the region, and built the city and a ceremonial center. During the Spanish conquest of Peru, it served as a fortress for Manco Inca Yupanqui, the leader of the Inca resistance.
