Cover photo info
- Photo title: Glacier Scrape Lines
- Author: Mewen1965
- Cover photo description:
- On this example of the Canadian Shield bedrock, you can see scrape lines that run parallel to each other. Thousands of years ago this land was covered with glaciers that were up to 4 km thick. As the glaciers expanded and retracted they captured rocks underneath that scrapped along the bedrock. By observing the direction of the scrape lines you can tell which direction the glaciers were expanding and retracting. The bedrock itself is part of the Canadian Shield and is unto 4 billion years old. This is some of the oldest bedrock on the planet. The location of this photo is near Yellowknife Northwest Territories Canada on a trail leading to the Cameron Falls. The photo was taken in late summer.
