Cover photo info
- Photo title: Red billed firefinch (Lagonosticta senegala)
- Author: Kvakka
- Cover photo description:
- Unlike other Astrilds the male and the female differ sharply in color of their feathering. Males are cherry-colored females olive-brown.They live in most of sub-Saharan Africa. Birds always live in pairs and after nesting they gather in small flocks. We managed to capture the moment when the couple comb out each other. It is also interesting that the red-footed widow (Vidua chalybeata) lays its eggs in the nests of this species but does not destroy the host's eggs (Schubert et al. 2012).
