- Cover photo description:
- African lioness (panther Leo) bathing in the glorious golden early morning sunshine in Hwange National Parks, Zimbabwe, Africa. The African Lion is revered the world over, but their population has shrunk to half over the past two decades. Conflict with humans is one of the greatest threats these predators face. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) estimates that fewer than 25,000 lions remain in Africa. African lions face a variety of threats, most of which can be attributed to humans. Fearing that lions will prey on their livestock, which can be a significant financial blow, ranchers, villages, communities, may kill the animals both in retaliation and as a preventative measure, sometimes using pesticides such as poison. Areas with mismanaged Trophy Hunting and Poachers target the species too.
