- Author: Mickem
- Cover photo description:
- The Central Arizona Project delivers water from the Colorado River to Phoenix and Tuscon. Branching off from the main canal are smaller canals which in turn are branched off from by water pipes. While Phoenix is regarded as a new city, it was built on the ruins of an ancient civilization. Canals were the cornerstone that allowed the Hohokam people to transform the Salt River Valley into a fertile oasis for more than a millennium. The canals deliver water throughout the Valley, to cities and irrigation customers, using a system of canals over 131 miles and use gravity to move the water.
