- Once in a while the Walvis Bay lagoon, on the Atlantic coast, has its water turned milky white. This is due to release of hydrogen sulfide from the lagoon bed. The ocean around Walvis Bay is healthy with lots of marine animals, when these die and get fossilized hydrogen sulfide gets trapped in the lagoon bed.
