- Leucas aspera is a plant species within the genus Leucas and the family Lamiaceae. Although the species has many different common names depending on the region in which it is located, it is most commonly known as Thumbai or Thumba. Found throughout India, it is known for its various uses in the fields of medicine and agriculture. It is commonly occur in Drona (earthen berm). Other names in different Indian languages include Barahalkura (Bengali), Gubo, Kubi (Gujrati), Dhurpisag, Guma, Gumma, Goma (Hindi), Devakhumba (Marathi) and Peedalumni (Telugu).The juice extracted from leaves is used to cure skin problems. In rainy season, many Indian tribal communities take bath with water having Dronpushpi leaf extract. According to Ayurveda, the plant is mild stimulant and diaphoretic and used in fevers and coughs. The flowers mixed in honey is used as domestic remedy for cough and colds.
