  • Each of the spans is 45 feet wide.and approximately 100 feet high, each span foundation goes down 15 feet into the ground. Completed in 1875, in Victorian times, this building project would have been on a par with the modern construction of the Millau viaduct in France. It took thousands of Navvies, years to complete, and cost many lives. It carries railway traffic from quarries and the famous Settle-Carlisle tourist line.
