- Cover photo description:
- Michael De Young, founder of the San Francisco Chronicle newspaper, had two daughters, Constance and Helen. When it was announced in 1915 that daughter Constance was to marry Joseph Tobin, De Young hired famed architect Willis Polk to build her a home. The plan was, Constance and Helen would have joining homes, and since the De Young home was in the back at the time, where the two sisters homes met, would be an arched passageway leading back to his home. It is still unclear why, but Helen refused to move out of the home she had at the time, so that second home was never built, and the archway never completed. Michaels mansion was torn down in 1941, making this the final home of what was once a whole block owned by the De Young family. As seen 28 November 2022.
