  • The Himeji castle is nicknamed “White Heron” due in part to its beautiful and elegant appearance. In 1333, the Akamatsu family constructed a fort in Himeyama while advancing soldiers to Kyo. In 1346, Sadanori Akamatsu built a full-scale castle in Himeyama, which is located on top of hill. In 1580, Hideyoshi erected a three-story castle tower. The castle completed the castle the following year. Centuries past with a series of lords ruling. Eventually, the castle tower was designated a National treasure & x28;1931& x29; and a new national treasure & x28;1951& x29;. And years later, the castle underwent major construction & x28;1956-1964& x29;. Finally, after being registered as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site & x28;1993& x29;, the castle was repaired & x28;2009& x29;, and opened its doors for the public & x28;2015& x29;.
