- Cover photo description:
- The African Shovel-nosed Snake (Scaphiophis albopunctatus) is a strange looking and poorly known snake species. It has a strong shovel shaped scale on the nose which is used to dig and look for rodent burrows. Once inside a burrow and finding an inhabitant they will kill them by constricting them against the tunnel walls. They are seldom seen but considered a successful species since they have a wide distribution across large parts of sub-saharan Africa.
