  • This is a photo of a Southern Stingray which was taken while diving in Curacao. The ray was totally buried in the sand, until I interrupted his nap. This species of ray varies in color from brown to gray and black. Much like sharks, the topside of the ray is like a fine-grain sandpaper, the underside is soft white tissue. They have a whip-like tail with one or two venomous spines at the base. Equipment used was a Nikonos V underwater camera with 20mm lens and Nikonos 105 strobe.
