- Photo title: Lower falls of the Yellowstone River in Yellowstone National Park
- Author: Paulbuhr
- Cover photo description:
- Early September day under a bright blue sky with some puffy white clouds at Yellowstone National Park. The lower falls lead into the grand canyon of the Yellowstone River and is framed by yellow canyon walls. The water drops about 300 feet here and the thunderous sounds can be heard down the canyon. The yellow rocks are the result of volcanic gasses seeping through the earth and flowing from vents call fumaroles. The gasses form acids which eat away at the rock and leave only the yellow residue which weathers away readily.
