- Photo title: Italian candle snuffer 4
- Author: Peachpappa
- Cover photo description:
- The earliest known use of candles go back to the Tenth Century BCE, for light. As societies developed, so did the making and using of candles, and ways of saving the unused portions for another time. The first tools for this were a scissor like device with a type of basket for catching the trimmed portion of the wick, or 'snuffing out' the candle. As the wicks for the candles improved over time, the scissor types were no longer needed, replaced by the bell shaped tool. Although no longer a true 'snuffer', the verb still exists today. This Italian candle snuffer is from the early Twentieth Century. As seen 29 September 2023.
