- Cover photo description:
- Www.zimbabwesituation.com reports that hunting of the Presidential elephant herd has seemingly begun. These elephant herds number no more than about 500 in total and live in the Sikumi Vlei area near Hwange Safari Lodge. In the early 1980s President Mugabe named the herd as the Presidential Herd, the aim being to aid their conservation in a non-hunting area in Zimbabwe adjacent to Hwange National Park. This so called 'protection' of the herd has had no impact of late due to rampant corruption, greed & politics inside Zimbabwe. These photos are dedicated to one of the herds who was led by a matriarch called Misty, I used to guide photographic safari clients through the area, sadly no more. Any conservationist should be deeply concerned about these elephants future.
