- Photo title: Historic Berlin Tempelhof Airport
- Author: Danielschreurs
- Cover photo description:
- Abandoned Flughafen Tempelhof: Departure Schedule in the Luggage Handling Basement. Originally a military parading ground, Tempelhof was designated as an airport in 1923. The old terminal was originally constructed in 1927. The Nazi government began a massive reconstruction in the mid-1930s and intended it to be the gateway to the "great Germania". During WW2 it was used by the Luftwaffe. Tempelhof was the centre of the Berlin Airlift of 1948-49. During the Cold War Tempelhof served as an American Military base until 1993. The airport was closed in 2008. It still is one of the largest buildings in the world. The former airfield has subsequently been used as a recreational space known as "Tempelhofer Feld".
